Liberal Democrat-run Three Rivers District Council has been working to protect and improve the environment ever since they took control twenty or more years ago. But Liberal Democrats are also committed to the Green Agenda as a way of cutting costs and saving money. Recently the council installed two ground source heat pumps to produce cheap, sustainable energy to heat the Three Rivers House council offices and the café and toilet block at the Aquadrome country park in Rickmansworth.

In a debate on the number of speed cameras, Baroness Scott of Needham Market raised the concerns of many when seeking assurances from Ministers that local police forces are not using speed cameras as a substitute for highways policing. As she noted in her speech on 28 January, while cameras undoubtedly pick up speed, they do not pick up drink-driving, dangerous driving, tailgating and such practices.

Dacorum Borough Council, in response to the bad weather before Christmas, delayed some bin collections but later announced it would work to "catch up".

Liberal Democrat councillors have been left asking who is telling the truth on the grit situation following misleading statements. One statement from the county council's portfolio holder for roads which has been contrasted by a briefing sent to all County Councillors from the council officers doing their jobs, without the political spin.

Tory-run Hertfordshire County Council has today admitted that it can only go out and grit the roads 6 more times this year. That is the equivalent to 2 nights' gritting - as they admit in their own press releases.
